TAMPA, Fla. – A Tampa Police Officer, Cornelius Young, has been suspended after an off-duty domestic violence incident on July 17, 2024.
Investigators say Young, who has been with the department since November 2023, was arrested at a Sun City residence following a physical altercation with a woman he knew.
The woman suffered minor injuries.

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw expressed disappointment and emphasized the department’s commitment to transparency and an internal investigation.
“To say this is disappointing is an understatement,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Our thoughts are with the victim involved. We are committed to transparency with our internal investigation. The allegations don’t represent the mission of the Tampa Police Department.”
Young will remain on leave until the investigation is concluded.
