Tampa Police Now Investigating Aggravated Battery Case As Homicide

TAMPA, Fla. – An aggravated battery case has now been upgraded to a homicide investigation after a man dies from a stab wound.

On July 18, 2022, at 7:25 p.m., Tampa Police Officers responded to a disturbance. After meeting with all parties involved, it was determined to be civil in nature, no crime had occurred, and all parties were separated.

After the officers left the scene, they received a 911 call around 8:05 p.m., but the unidentified caller would not provide details as to why they needed police.

Tampa Police officers again responded to the address, to find a victim walking away with a stab wound to his abdomen.

He initially refused medical treatment, but ultimately agreed to be transported to the hospital for evaluation. The male victim was able to provide the police with a statement.

Police say the other involved party and possible suspect stayed on the scene, was cooperative with police, and gave a statement as well.

The State Attorney’s Office was contacted that day and directed TPD to direct file the Aggravated Battery case to their office for review.

The Tampa Police Homicide squad has now been notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office that the victim has died as a result of the original incident.

Police say the involved party is a 72-year-old Hispanic male and his involvement is still under investigation.

This case is now being investigated as a homicide. We will update this story as more details are released.
