Tampa Police Make Arrest in Robles Park Shooting

TAMPA, Fla. – Just after 10 PM on November 9th, officers heard gunfire in the area of Robles Park, followed approximately one minute later by a second volley of gunshots in the same general area. As officers were en route, the Tampa Police Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a male had been shot near E. Lake Ave and N. Central Ave. Officers arrived on the scene and located a male in his mid-forties with a gunshot wound to his leg.

The victim advised police that he heard gunshots and looked up at the intersection to see gunfire coming from a dark-colored SUV, which then fled east on Lake Ave. A small silver pickup truck and a newer model gold or silver sedan were also seen in close proximity to the shooting. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers gathered evidence that showed a black male, later identified as Kengie Jones, also firing a gun at the time of the shooting. Jones was quickly located and taken into custody.

Approximately 30 minutes after the shooting, a second gunshot wound victim walked into the St. Joseph’s Hospital Emergency Room. The subject was uncooperative with investigators and left the hospital after treatment for his non-life-threatening injuries.

Jones was transported to Hillsborough County Jail, charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Detectives are continuing to work toward developing leads in this case and locating the dark colored SUV. They also want to speak with the occupants of the other vehicles seen at the time of the shooting.
