TAMPA, Fla. – Amidst the fury of Hurricane Milton, Tampa Police officers demonstrated extraordinary bravery and dedication by rescuing a family trapped in their home after a tree came crashing down.

The dramatic incident unfolded when a 911 call reported a tree had fallen on a single-story home in the 1700 block of E. Wood St. The house was occupied by 15 people, including several children.

Despite the dangerous conditions, a group of nearby officers who were sheltering from the storm immediately responded to the call. Seizing a brief lull in the intense wind and rain, they rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers found the family huddled inside the damaged home, frightened but unharmed. Working quickly, they evacuated all 15 occupants, including the children, and transported them to the nearest shelter. Before leaving the scene, one officer ensured the power to the home was shut off to prevent further hazards.

“Every member of this department is committed to the safety of our community,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “The swift actions taken by these officers during a break in the storm bands provided this family with a sense of safety in a time of fear and uncertainty.”
