TAMPA, Fla. – A man has been arrested in the shooting death of another man after an argument turned deadly Friday.
On Friday, at 8:38 a.m., TPD Communications received a call advising that someone was shot in the 9200 block of N. 13th Street. Upon officers arrival, they located a male in his early thirties with upper body trauma. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses informed detectives that the 22-year-old suspect, Amani Berrios, became upset after alleging that his phone had been stolen. Berrios continued to cause a disturbance at the residence, when the victim asked Berrios to quiet down.

A brief argument ensued between Berrios and the victim. According to witnesses and Berrios’ post-Miranda admission, the victim challenged Berrios to a physical altercation. Following the argument, Berrios entered his residence and retrieved a handgun and shot the victim multiple times.
Berrios fled from the scene and entered a nearby Mobil gas station located on N. Nebraska Avenue. Berrios asked the gas station clerk to call 911 and he identified himself to the dispatcher.
Berrios was taken into custody at the Mobil gas station and was transported to Orient Road Jail. He was charged with one count of Murder In The First Degree.
