TAMPA, Fla. – The City of Tampa has announced the appointment of Jeffrey McKittrick as Director of Housing and Community Development. With nearly three decades of experience in local government and a focus on affordable housing and community redevelopment, McKittrick is set to lead the city’s efforts to address housing challenges and ensure stability for its residents.
McKittrick previously served as the Assistant Director of Housing and Community Development in Pasco County, where he spearheaded key initiatives, including the revival of the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, the overhaul of local housing assistance plans, and the management of a department budget overseeing $20 million in state and federal funding. Before his tenure in Pasco County, McKittrick worked in Kingsport, Tennessee, overseeing redevelopment efforts for the local Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

In Kingsport, McKittrick implemented strategies to expedite housing applications for the homeless and managed the relocation of more than 100 residents from a public housing property slated for demolition. His prior career also includes service as a deputy sheriff in Manatee County, FL, and Sullivan County, TN, where he worked as a field training officer and school resource officer.
Mayor Jane Castor expressed her confidence in McKittrick’s ability to tackle Tampa’s housing challenges.
“Jeff McKittrick is a recognized leader who understands our housing and affordability crisis,” said Mayor Castor. “With nearly three decades of experience in local government, I am confident he will deliver on the fundamental vision we have to help our struggling residents secure a safe place to live.”
McKittrick will lead the implementation of affordable housing initiatives launched under Mayor Castor’s administration, collaborating with community stakeholders, the city’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, and the Community Redevelopment Agency to develop new housing units and stabilize existing ones.

Reflecting on his new role, McKittrick highlighted the progress Tampa has already made under Mayor Castor’s leadership.
“It’s been remarkable to witness the transformative impact the Mayor’s housing initiatives have had on Tampa as she has worked tirelessly to combat our housing crisis,” McKittrick said. “I am honored to have this opportunity, and I look forward to working with our housing team on our shared priorities.”
Development and Economic Opportunity Administrator Abbye Feeley praised McKittrick’s qualifications, noting his commitment to community-focused development.
“To deliver on Tampa’s ambitious housing goals and keep up with the immense growth our city has witnessed, having experienced leadership is crucial, and that is what Jeff brings to the table,” Feeley said.
A Florida native, McKittrick holds a degree from King University in Bristol, TN, and has earned his Certified Public Manager designation from Florida State University. His deep ties to Florida and extensive experience make him uniquely equipped to address the pressing housing needs of the Tampa community.
As Tampa continues to experience rapid growth, McKittrick’s leadership is expected to play a critical role in advancing housing solutions and ensuring that residents have access to affordable and stable housing options.
