Tampa Men Sentenced To Federal Prison For Armed Robbery Of Mail Carrier

TAMPA, Fla. – U.S. District Judge Charlene Honeywell has sentenced two Tampa men to federal prison for their roles in the armed robbery of a postal mail carrier. Jordan Murray, 20, received a sentence of nine years and six months, while Jordan Brown, 21, was sentenced to two years and six months.

The court also ordered them to pay $1,531.99 in restitution to the mail carrier. A third co-defendant, Darine Underwood, also 20, has pleaded guilty to armed robbery and brandishing a firearm and is awaiting sentencing.

According to court documents, on September 5, 2023, a USPS mail carrier was delivering mail at a Tampa apartment complex when he was confronted by Murray and Underwood, who were wearing masks and gloves.

Murray and Underwood forcibly took the mail carrier’s postal keys while brandishing a firearm. They then fled in a vehicle driven by Brown. The investigation revealed that Brown was to be paid for driving them to and from the robbery, and that Murray and Underwood intended to sell the stolen postal keys.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel.
