TAMPA, Fla. – The City of Tampa has unveiled its newest park, the 48-acre MacDill 48 Park. This stunning green space offers a unique blend of environmental benefits and recreational opportunities.

A Multi-Functional Park

  • Stormwater Management: The park plays a crucial role in managing stormwater runoff, reducing flooding risks in the surrounding area.
  • Water Quality Improvement: The park’s stormwater pond helps filter pollutants and improve the water quality of Hillsborough Bay.
  • Recreational Oasis: A 1-mile trail, picnic areas, and a boardwalk offer residents a serene escape from the urban bustle.

A Testament to Sustainable Design

MacDill 48 Park has been recognized with an Excellence in Engineering and Public Works award. This award highlights the project’s innovative design and its positive impact on the environment.

“MacDill 48 Park seamlessly combines form with function, bringing much-needed stormwater infrastructure to the surrounding community, while also providing a beautiful space for all to enjoy,” Mayor Jane Castor said. “Thanks to the tireless work of our team members, and regional and community partners, we are ecstatic to include this extraordinary place in our award-winning park system and our growing list of major infrastructure upgrades.”

This project was made possible through a combination of funding sources, including grants from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Southwest Florida Water Management District. The City of Tampa also contributed significantly to the $51.4 million project.
