TAMPA, Fla. – In anticipation of potential tropical weather impacting the Tampa area this weekend and into next week, Tampa Emergency Management is urging residents to finalize their preparedness plans.

To mitigate potential flooding, three sandbag sites will be open to residents and business owners starting Friday, August 2nd.

The following locations will be available for sandbag distribution:

  • Himes Avenue Complex (4501 South Himes Avenue)
  • Al Barnes Park (2902 North 32nd Street)
  • Al Lopez Park (4810 North Himes Avenue)

To prioritize those most in need, seniors and individuals with special needs will have a dedicated sandbag filling period on Friday, August 2nd, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The sites will then be open to the general public until 7:00 PM on Saturday, August 3rd. Each household can collect up to 10 sandbags, with new filling machines available to streamline the process.

Residents are encouraged to pre-register for sandbags at tampa.gov/hurricane, where they can also find additional hurricane resources, such as evacuation zones and shelter information.
