TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Electric (TECO) customers are set to see an increase in their monthly bills starting in January 2025. The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) approved a base-rate increase of $184.9 million, which will result in higher costs for residential and commercial customers.

While residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours per month will see an increase of about $9, commercial customers may experience varying impacts.

Small commercial customers could see a decrease, while medium and large commercial and industrial customers may face increases of 9 to 14 percent.

Tampa Electric argues that the rate increases are necessary to fund infrastructure improvements and maintain reliable service. However, consumer advocates have raised concerns about the magnitude of the increases and their potential impact on customers.

The PSC will finalize the rate plan on Thursday, December 13th.
