HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Tampa doctor has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a man in a wheelchair.
On October 12, 2024, 62-year-old Dr. Gwyn Norman Crump, Jr. allegedly struck 53-year-old Richard Taylor, who was in a wheelchair, while driving on East 124th Avenue. Crump failed to stop after the collision, leaving the scene of the accident.

Several witnesses provided a description of Crump’s vehicle to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Using footage from the Real Time Crime Center cameras, detectives were able to identify the vehicle and its license plate, leading them to Crump’s residence.
When confronted by investigators, Crump admitted to driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. He was arrested on November 13th and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death.

Taylor was transported to AdventHealth Fletcher after the hit-and-run but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
“I want to offer my deepest condolences to the family of the victim during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “While nothing can undo this heartbreaking loss, we hope that this arrest brings some measure of closure to their loved ones.”
