A Florida Blue Alert was issued late Tuesday night for a man last seen in Taylor County in Florida’s Panhandle.

Suspect Responsible For Florida Blue Alert Tuesday, Shot And Killed By Homeowner

The suspect, who the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a Blue Alert for on Tuesday night, was shot and killed on Wednesday by a homeowner after a home intrusion.

Deputies say, on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 9:46 p.m. deputies with the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office responded to US-19 Highway in Taylor County to assist the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, after it was reported that one of their deputies was shot while conducting a traffic stop.

The suspect was Gregory Miedema, 33.

The Deputy was airlifted to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition. Throughout the night DCSO deputies along with assisting agencies searched extensively for the suspect, to no avail.

On Wednesday at 7:19 a.m. DCSO deputies responded to a residence near Tennille, Florida, after a homeowner reported the shooting of an intruder.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the homeowner who stated he had exchanged gunfire with the armed suspect after he entered their home.

The suspect was deceased when deputies arrived at the residence.

Investigators say located at the scene was the suspect’s vehicle and several firearms strategically placed in what appeared to be an ambush set up.

The deceased was identified as Gregory Miedema, 33, who was the suspect in the shooting of the Taylor County deputy the previous night.
