Suspect In Tampa Shooting Dies By Suicide After Standoff With Police

TAMPA, Fla. – A Tampa man suspected in a shooting last week has died by suicide after a standoff with police.

On November 1st, Tampa Police officers responded to a shooting on the 1700 block of E. Hillsborough Avenue. They found a man in his early 60s with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim survived his injuries but was unable to provide information about the shooter.

Through investigation, officers identified 28-year-old Michael Shaheen as a suspect and obtained a warrant to search his vehicle, a 2007 silver Honda Accord.

On Tuesday evening, officers located the vehicle at Shaheen’s residence. When Shaheen entered the car and attempted to leave, officers initiated a traffic stop. Shaheen refused to exit the vehicle, leading to a standoff that lasted for several hours.

The Tampa Police SWAT team was called to the scene and attempted to negotiate with Shaheen, but he eventually stopped communicating.

When SWAT members approached the vehicle, they found Shaheen with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
