Florida continues to bask in the spotlight, not just for its beaches, but also for its booming population. New data released by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) confirms what many already suspected: Florida is the fastest-growing state in the country.
The analysis, conducted by The Center Square, looked at migration patterns using tax filing information.
It revealed that between 2022 and 2023, a whopping 245,334 new residents flocked to the Sunshine State. This surge translates to Florida adding more people than any other state in the nation.

But the Sunshine State’s appeal goes beyond its warm weather and sandy shores.
The data suggests a multi-state exodus, with many residents relocating from states like New York, California, and New Jersey. Interestingly, the IRS data shows that New York residents topped the list of those departing for Florida, with over 84,000 Empire State residents seeking greener pastures in the south.
Experts point to a combination of factors driving this migration trend. Florida’s lack of state income tax and relatively lower cost of living compared to some northern states are likely significant draws. Additionally, the state’s booming job market, particularly in sectors like tourism and hospitality, offers attractive opportunities for newcomers.

Florida’s population boom has significant implications. It places a strain on infrastructure and resources in growing areas, while potentially influencing political landscapes as demographics shift. However, it also presents an opportunity for economic growth as new residents bring their skills and spending power to the state.
Whether Florida can maintain its top spot in the population race remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the Sunshine State is a hot destination, and its allure continues to attract new residents from across the country.
