Sunny Hostin Baselessly Claims Trump Will Kill People By Taking Away Social Security, Medicaid

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin baselessly said Friday that people will die because of President Donald Trump’s cuts to Social Security and Medicaid, though the president has repeatedly said the two programs will not be touched.

The co-host raged at the ten congressional Democrats who voted to censure Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green Friday for disrupting Trump’s congressional address, arguing that they need to fight against the cuts to Social Security and Medicaid. Trump has promised that the two programs will not be cut, but that has not stopped Democrats from claiming that these programs are in danger.

“They don’t know how to fight and be part of an opposition party,” Hostin said. “Representative Green gave them the example, the Democrats are not meeting the moment. It is very clear that Medicaid is on the table, it is very clear that Social Security is on the table, it is very clear that people will die. The Baby Boomers, the civil rights generation, they knew what to do. They knew how to fight and die for their rights. This generation of Congress, they are not meeting the moment. This is an existential threat! They should be ashamed of themselves. They all should’ve walked out with him!”

Trump has continuously opposed cuts to Social Security and Medicaid, even urging the Republican Party in January 2023 to not “cut a single penny” from either program. The president assured Fox News’ Sean Hannity in February that he would not support any cuts to entitlements, including Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in the House GOP budget bill unless there are cases of waste, fraud and abuse.

Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) overseer Elon Musk stated during his CPAC interview that DOGE will “save” the programs because the cuts will ensure that the government spends less money on paying off the national debt.

Green shouted at the president during his speech Tuesday night telling him he “has no mandate” and ignored House Speaker Mike Johnson’s demand for decorum. After being escorted from the House floor, Green told reporters that he stood up to Trump’s so-called “desire to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.”

Congressional members voted 224 to 198 on the final passage of the resolution to censure Green over his behavior Thursday.

The Democratic lawmakers who voted to censure Green included Ami Bera and Jim Costa of California, Ed Case of Hawaii, Laura Gillen and Tom Suozzi of New York, Jim Himes of Connecticut, Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, Jared Moskowitz of Florida and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said the Democrats’ message about not firing federal workers is a “losing message,” as most Americans support the downsizing of the federal government. Panelist Sara Haines complained that lawmakers are too focused on infighting rather than doing their jobs.
