PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – Sunlake High School and Charles S. Rushe Middle School were placed on controlled campus status Thursday after a report of a potential weapon on the high school campus, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the report prompted immediate action, with school officials and deputies quickly locating the subject. However, the individual fled the Sunlake High School campus.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the 16-year-old Sunlake High School student connected to the incident has been located. The student was found to be in possession of a paintball gun. Authorities have determined that there is no threat to either Sunlake High School or Charles S. Rushe Middle School.
“Out of an abundance of caution,” both Sunlake High School and Charles S. Rushe Middle School were placed on controlled campus status during the search.
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that there is no current safety threat to either school. “An increased law enforcement presence is on both campuses as a precautionary measure,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.
