The Sugar Bowl, one of college football’s most prestigious bowl games, has been postponed following a deadly terror attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, according to WDSU.
The matchup will take place on Thursday at Caesars Superdome.
Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley released a statement early Wednesday, “The Sugar Bowl Committee is devastated by the terrible events from early this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.”

Early Wednesday morning, around 3:15 AM, a man drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s Eve revelers in a bustling area of New Orleans, killing at least 10 people and injuring many more.
The attacker, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, was killed in a firefight with police following the attack.
The FBI’s statement revealed that an ISIS flag was recovered from Jabbar’s vehicle. Authorities are now working to determine “potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations.” The investigation is ongoing to uncover any possible motives and connections to extremist groups.
This tragic incident has shocked the city of New Orleans and cast a shadow over New Year’s celebrations. The FBI is urging anyone with information about the attacker or the incident to come forward.
