A student at Amos P. Godby High School in Leon County has been arrested for making an online threat against an unspecified school in Tallahassee.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) received information on March 3rd about the threat, which was posted on a social media website. FDLE crime intelligence analysts conducted a thorough investigation and were able to link the social media account to the student.

The information was shared with a Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) school resource officer, who then arrested the student.

“School safety is our number one priority,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “Threats against our schools and our students will not be tolerated and law enforcement will pursue you for making these kinds of threats. I am thankful for our law enforcement partners for acting swiftly to protect our schools.”

This incident comes as Florida continues to prioritize school safety and implement measures to prevent and respond to threats. FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass recently attended the Florida National Summit on School Safety, where he highlighted the state’s efforts to safeguard students and schools.

“Our success is because of the strong partnerships we have between our education professionals, law enforcement professionals and lawmakers who prioritize keeping our school kids, faculty and families safe,” said Commissioner Glass.

Florida has implemented various initiatives to enhance school safety, including:

  • Fortify Florida app: Allows students and faculty to anonymously report suspicious activity.
  • School guardian and safe-school officer programs: Provides trained personnel to respond to threats and emergencies.
  • Alyssa’s Alert: A mobile panic alert system that strengthens school emergency responses.

This collaborative approach between public safety, education, and legislative partners has made Florida a national model for school safety.
