RIVERVIEW, Fla. – An 18-year-old student at Sumner High School in Hillsborough County was arrested Tuesday morning after a loaded firearm was found in his vehicle.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reports that a School Resource Deputy was alerted by school administrators that the student, Jason Henson, may have a weapon in his vehicle. An administrative search of the vehicle was conducted, and a loaded firearm was discovered inside the center console.

Henson was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds. He refused to provide any information about how he obtained the firearm.

“I am grateful for our deputy and the school staff’s quick response, ensuring this dangerous situation was handled before anyone was harmed,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Students need to understand that bringing a gun to school is not only reckless; it carries serious consequences. There is absolutely no place for weapons in our schools, and we will continue to take swift action against anyone who puts students, teachers, and staff at risk.”
