RIVERVIEW, Fla. – A 14-year-old student at Sumner High School was arrested today after being found in possession of a handgun on campus.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., the school’s resource deputy received a tip that a student had a firearm. A search was conducted, and deputies made contact with Dontavious Walton, 14, who was found to be in possession of the handgun.

Walton was taken into custody without incident and faces the following charges:
- Minor in Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm on School Property
“It is never acceptable to bring a firearm to school. This is not only against the law but incredibly dangerous,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are grateful for the quick response of our School Resource Deputy and the individual who provided the tip, ensuring the safety of our children. We will continue to take every measure necessary to keep our schools safe.”
