TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa police are searching for the driver of a stolen car who ran a stop sign and wreaked havoc on innocent drivers Monday.
According to Tampa PD, Tampa Police Officers spotted a stolen 2013 gray Hyundai Genesis this afternoon, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.
Investigators say the Officers did not engage in a pursuit; however, the Genesis, traveling southbound on N. 28th St, ran through a stop sign and struck a 2005 Jeep Liberty in the intersection of E. 26th Ave and N. 28th St causing it to flip.
The Jeep was occupied by an adult female driver, an adult female passenger, and a young child. The female passenger was ejected and under the overturned Jeep after the impact.
Police say that Good Samaritans assisted police in tending to the child and the driver while others worked with officers to lift the vehicle and free the female passenger from under the Jeep.
The woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say the driver and child were uninjured.
Police say officers quickly established a perimeter, attempting to locate the suspect who fled on foot. They have not yet been able to locate him.
It is early in the investigation and detectives are working to identify the occupant of the stolen Genesis.
