The state Department of Education is preparing to develop a rule to help carry out charter school oversight measures approved in the last two years.
The department posted a notice of development of rule-making on Tuesday, stating that one part of the rule would implement issues in HB 443, which was approved by the Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2023.
The potential rule addresses charter school sponsors, which may include school districts, state colleges, and universities.

The sponsors are in charge of overseeing the schools’ finances and ensuring that they participate in a state accountability system.
The proposed rule would involve developing a “standard monitoring tool” that, according to a House analysis of the bill, would be used for “conducting annual site reviews of charter schools.”
According to the notice, the rule would also incorporate a portion of SB 758, which was approved by lawmakers and DeSantis in 2022 and deals with changes to the “Florida Standard Charter Contract and the Florida Standard Charter Renewal Contract as it relates to the termination of a charter.”
A rule development workshop is scheduled for March 26, according to the News Service of Florida.
