An instructor has been placed on leave at Stanford University in response to allegations that he separated Jewish and Israeli students from the rest of the class, comparing his charade with how Israel has treated Palestinians

”The instructor asked Jewish and Israeli students to identify themselves” and then “told the Jewish students to take their belongings, stand in a corner, and said, ‘This is what Israel does to the Palestinians,’” The Forward reported on Thursday.

“How many people died in the Holocaust? “Six million,” the lecturer allegedly said. “Colonizers killed more than 6 million. Israel is a colonizer.”

”I was waiting to post this until it was confirmed by multiple sources I trust,” Shaun Maguire posted on X naming Hasan Loggins. “These are 1930s vibes.”

Rabbi Dov Greenberg, director of the Chabad Stanford Jewish Center, told the Forward he was told those stories by three students who were in the room with the instructor during a session for a required undergraduate course called “Civil, Liberal and Global Education.”

In a statement to the campus community on Wednesday in response to the reports, Stanford President Richard Saller and Provost Jenny Martinez stated that the lecturer is “not currently teaching while the university works to ascertain the facts of the situation.”

“We have heard many expressions of concern regarding student safety. We have heard from Jewish students, faculty, and staff concerned about rising antisemitism. We have heard from Palestinian students who have received threatening emails and phone calls. We want to make clear that Stanford stands unequivocally against hatred on the basis of religion, race, ethnicity, national origin, and other categories,” Stanford said in a statement.
