MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A St. Petersburg woman was arrested Saturday morning after leading Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase down U.S. 1 in the Florida Keys.

26-year-old Angelica Lupe Cobo was taken into custody after her vehicle was stopped near the Seven Mile Bridge. She faces charges of fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, and reckless driving, deputies say.

Cobo also had an outstanding warrant from Hillsborough County for failure to appear in court on charges of resisting arrest, battery on a law enforcement officer, and DUI.

The incident began around 4:43 a.m. when deputies attempted to stop a Nissan SUV driven by Cobo near Mile Marker 32. Deputies had determined that the registered owner of the vehicle did not have a valid driver’s license and had an outstanding warrant. Cobo refused to stop and sped away, leading deputies on a pursuit.

Deputies deployed spike strips near the Seven Mile Bridge, which deflated the SUV’s tires and caused Cobo to lose control. She then attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.

Cobo was transported to the Monroe County Jail.
