ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A St. Petersburg woman was tragically killed in a late-night stabbing attack Wednesday, allegedly at the hands of her own son.

Police responded to a residence at 1904 54th Terrace South just before midnight on January 23rd following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers discovered 53-year-old Barbara Pullaro deceased inside the apartment. She had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Pullaro’s son, 24-year-old Rafal Gajowczyk, was also found inside the home with injuries to his hands, presumably sustained during the attack. Police indicate that Gajowczyk has a history of mental health issues.

Gajowczyk was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital for treatment. He is expected to be charged with his mother’s murder and booked into the Pinellas County Jail upon his release from the hospital.

The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.
