ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – As Tropical Storm Debby brings inclement weather to St. Petersburg, city officials have announced closures and safety measures to protect residents.

City Facility Closures:

  • All city golf courses (Mangrove Bay, Cypress Links, and Twin Brooks)
  • All city pools
  • Brush sites
  • Boyd Hill Nature Preserve
  • Sunken Gardens

Storm Safety Tips for Drivers:

  • Anticipate minor street flooding in low-lying areas.
  • Use headlights and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
  • Avoid driving through flooded streets to prevent damage and potential stalling.

Power Outage Information:

Electric Vehicle Precautions:

  • Avoid driving or charging EVs in floodwater.
  • Keep EV batteries fully charged and unplug from chargers during the storm.
  • Park EVs away from flood-prone areas and structures.
  • Safely dispose of any lithium-ion batteries exposed to floodwater.

Flooded Property Precautions:

  • Turn off the main power and unplug electrical devices if flooding occurs.
  • Avoid touching wet electrical equipment.

  • Never use generators indoors or in attached garages due to carbon monoxide risks.
  • Do not store fuel indoors or refuel a running generator.
  • Have a fire extinguisher readily available when using a generator.
