ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A reckless driver caused a serious crash in St. Petersburg on Thursday afternoon, leaving an 18-year-old in critical condition and then fleeing the scene.
The incident occurred around 2:02 p.m. at the intersection of 54th Avenue North and 12th Street North. A maroon Toyota Avalon, speeding and weaving through traffic, slammed into a Chevy pickup truck that was crossing the intersection.

The impact flipped the pickup truck, trapping the young driver inside. The driver of the Toyota abandoned his vehicle and ran away, later getting picked up by another vehicle nearby.
Emergency responders transported the 18-year-old victim to the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
