ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – St. Petersburg Fire Rescue (SPFR) crews responded to over 100 emergency calls during Wednesday’s torrential rain, mainly related to vehicles trapped in floodwaters.

Thankfully, no storm-related injuries were reported. SPFR urges residents to stay safe and avoid flooded areas during severe weather.

Between 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m., SPFR responded to 111 emergency calls. Most of the calls were related to vehicles trapped in floodwaters, followed by downed power lines and triggered fire alarms.

“Our crews don’t slow down when the rain picks up,” said Ashlie Handy, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue Public Information Officer. “The flooding created some additional challenges, but St. Pete firefighters know how to handle a summer storm.”

SPFR reminds residents to stay cautious in extreme weather conditions, avoid driving through flooded areas, and report any hazardous situations immediately.
