ST.PETERSBURG, FL. – St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to a brush fire at Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, today at approximately 12:00 pm.
Crews arrived to find a large area of brush on the north end of the preserve, not including trees, on fire. The fire is now under control; however, crews remain on-site to continue placing water on hot spots. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, for this was not a planned controlled burn.
After assessing the scene completely, crews were able to control the fire to a total burned area of approximately one acre of the 245 acres that make up the preserve.
High winds and dry brush were a difficult obstacle but crews from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue worked immediately with the staff of Boyd Hill Nature Preserve to isolate the fire early.
Other assisting agencies were Seminole Fire Rescue, St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue, Florida State Forestry, and Sunstar rehabilitation unit.
