AAA is activating its “Tow to Go” program across multiple states this St. Patrick’s Day weekend, providing a crucial safety net for partygoers who find themselves without a safe ride home. The initiative aims to prevent impaired driving during what is statistically one of the deadliest holidays on U.S. roadways.

The “Tow to Go” program will be active from 6 p.m. on Friday, March 14th, to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18th.

“Tow to Go” is a free service that provides impaired drivers and their vehicles with a ride to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. This program, which has been in operation for over 25 years, is designed as a last-resort option for those who have not planned a safe ride home. Since its inception, The Auto Club Group has successfully removed nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from the road.

When an individual calls the “Tow to Go” number, AAA dispatches a tow truck to transport them and their vehicle to a safe location. While the service is free for both AAA members and non-members, AAA emphasizes that it should be used as a last resort.

“We’re proud to be that last line of defense, keeping people from driving impaired,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “We also remain committed to educating the public that it’s important to find a safe ride before drinking alcohol or taking drugs. This is critical so motorists are not in the position of having to decide if they’re sober enough to drive.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest holidays for drunk driving. In 2020, over 11,000 people died in drunk-driving crashes nationwide.

The “Tow to Go” program will be active in Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, North Dakota, Nebraska, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Colorado (Denver), North Carolina (Charlotte), and Indiana (Fort Wayne/South Bend).

To utilize the “Tow to Go” service, call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.
