SPRING HILL, Fla. – A Spring Hill home was damaged by smoke and fire Tuesday morning.
At 09:41 a.m. on Tuesday, Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services(HCFES) received a 911 call for a residential fire at in the 13000 block of Drayton Dr. HCFES responded to the scene within 3 minutes and found heavy smoke and fire showing from the garage.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a heavy fire conditions from the garage. Firefighters made an aggressive attack of the fire and brought it under control at 9:57 a.m. The garage sustained heavy damage resulting from the fire, but the aggressive attack by fire crews prevented spread into the living area of the home.
The owner was inside and initially unaware of the fire. The owners exited the house prior to arrival of fire crews but sustained mild smoke inhalation. The owner was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The cause of the fire is under investigation by State Fire Marshall’s Office.
HCFES responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ALS medic units, 2 Battalion Chiefs, and an Administrative Chief. There was total of 16 fire personnel on scene.
HCFES would like to remind the community to practice fire drills regularly.
In addition, the door between the garage and the living space in a house provide a limited barrier to keep fire and smoke from spreading into the living spaces and should remain closed in the event of a garage fire.
