Residents across South Florida witnessed a spectacular, albeit concerning, light show in the sky last week, prompting numerous calls to local law enforcement. The event, initially reported by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office dispatch, was confirmed to be debris from a SpaceX rocket launch.
According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, a SpaceX rocket carrying a Starlink satellite, launched from Texas, experienced a breakup during launch.

This resulted in spacecraft debris re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere, creating a visible spectacle. A video of the event was captured in Hobe Sound.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office received a surge of calls from residents, corroborating reports originating from the Palm Beach Gardens area. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed the incident and, as a precautionary measure, has temporarily halted flights in the affected airspace until 8 PM.
Authorities have emphasized that there are no indications of drones, UFOs, or any other unusual phenomena related to the event. The light show was solely attributed to the re-entry of SpaceX debris.
