COVID-19 hypocrisy runneth over, as Gov. Kristi Noem understands.
South Dakota’s Republican chief executive took to Twitter on Tuesday to lash out at President Joe Biden for his double standard on the Fourth of July.
Three months ago the Biden administration rejected South Dakota’s request to host fireworks at Mount Rushmore to celebrate America’s birthday.
The National Park Service claimed it was too dangerous.
“Potential risks to the park itself and to the health and safety of employees and visitors associated with the fireworks demonstration continue to be a concern and are still being evaluated as a result of the 2020 event,” the agency told Noem’s administration. “In addition, the park’s many tribal partners expressly oppose fireworks at the Memorial.”
“These factors, compiled with the COVID-19 pandemic, do not allow a safe and responsible fireworks display to be held at this site.”
Yet just last July Noem accompanied former President Donald Trump for a celebration of the Fourth at Mount Rushmore.
On Tuesday, though, the Biden White House announced it would host a Fourth of July event at the National Mall.
“Thanks to the Biden administration’s whole of government pandemic response, the United States has made incredible progress in vaccinating Americans and getting our country back on track,” the White House said in an email to state and local leaders.
“America is headed into a summer dramatically different from last year,” the administration wrote to officials. “A summer of freedom. A summer of joy. A summer of reunions and celebrations.”
Except at Mount Rushmore, apparently.
“On July 4, because of our strong response, America will mark independence from the virus by celebrating events across the country,” the message continued. “Here at the White House we will be celebrating our essential workers and military service members and their families on the South Lawn. We welcome you to join us by hosting your own events to honor our freedom, salute those who have been serving on the frontlines, and celebrate our progress in fighting this pandemic.”
Again, except at Mount Rushmore.
“In America, we can do anything if we do it together,” the statement concluded, with an invitation for recipients to email the White House with details of individual celebrations.”
In response, Noem tweeted, “What a hypocrite. President @JoeBiden wants ‘a summer of freedom’ where we ‘mark independence from the virus by celebrating with events across the country.’ Translation: fireworks are fine at the White House, but not at Mount Rushmore.”
She added, “Rules for thee but not for me…a long time favorite from the Democrat playbook. @joebiden, why are you being so hypocritical? You’re having your own personal fireworks show in DC, but South Dakotans are told no? Given this hypocrisy, we will be resubmitting our request to hold our celebration at Mount Rushmore on July 3rd. Stay tuned!”
In response to Noem, conservative journalist Jordan Schachtel tweeted, “Just do the fireworks anyway!”
Why not.

I’m glad she is re-submitting and she should just do the fireworks, no matter what the fed govt says, unless it is very detrimental for her to do so.
