South Carolina Man Charged In Fatal Plant City, Florida, Hit-And-Run

PLANT CITY, Fla. - A South Carolina man was arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened in Plant City, Florida, Sunday.

PLANT CITY, Fla. – A South Carolina man was arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened in Plant City, Florida, Sunday.

According to investigators, the Plant City Police Department received a 911 call regarding a subject discovered lying on the side of the road.

Upon arrival to the location, a white male adult was found with injuries. Plant City Fire Rescue responded and pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigation by the Plant City Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit discovered the incident was the result of a hit and run traffic crash.

During the on-scene portion of the crash investigation, the possible suspect vehicle information was broadcast to on duty officers. This information was gathered from vehicle debris that was left at the crash scene by what was believed to be the suspect vehicle.

Officers canvassed the area and located a silver, 2012, Jeep Grand Cherokee, located at 1801 W. Ball Street in Plant City.

“The vehicle had a damage profile that was consistent with the vehicle debris that was located at the crash scene,” said PCPD.

Police made with the resident and owner of the vehicle.

An interview was conducted and post Miranda, police investigators learned that 27-year-old Miguel Rodriguez Jr. was operating the vehicle earlier Sunday and was the last person to operate the vehicle.

Police say that a check of his South Carolina driver’s license revealed that his driver license was suspended.

Rodriguez was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death – Bond $15,000
  • Driving While License Suspended Involving Death or Serious Bodily Injury – Bond $2,000
