A man from Summerville, South Carolina, is dead after a fireworks accident during a Fourth of July block party. The incident, which occurred around 10:30 pm on Thursday, involved the man lighting a large firework and placing it on his head before it detonated.
Identified as 41-year-old Allen Ray McGrew, according to the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office, Mr. McGrew was reportedly celebrating with friends and family when the accident happened.
Witnesses told deputies that Mr. McGrew had been drinking throughout the evening and “appeared to be showing off” when he placed the firework on his head.

The explosion caused massive head injuries, and Mr. McGrew was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The specific type of firework involved has not been disclosed, but authorities confirm it was legal for purchase.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, but no charges are expected to be filed.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with fireworks, even seemingly harmless ones.
