New Orleans District Attorney Jason Williams and his 78-year-old mother became victims of a carjacking incident as crime runs rampant through American cities.
According to the Associated Press, the two suspects are thought to have carried out another carjacking on Monday at a distance of several blocks. There were no injuries.
Williams is a lawyer and former member of the City Council. Prior to winning the district attorney position in a 2020 election, Williams practiced criminal defense.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, carjackings and other violent crimes increased in New Orleans; however, these crimes have decreased recently.

According to the Capital Research Center, George Soros gave $220,000 to the Louisiana Justice and Public Safety PAC in 2020 so that the organization could fund campaigns against Williams’ opponent and elect the DA.
Williams ran on a platform of social justice reform, pledging, according to his campaign website, to discover “alternatives to incarceration” for some criminals and to change the “ineffective and unfair money bail system.”
According to data from the New Orleans government’s office, Williams declined to prosecute 65% of all criminal cases in the city in 2021 but gradually pursued more cases as crime increased.
A September report from the watchdog group, the Metropolitan Crime Commission, showed carjackings were down by 44% by the end of August 2023, compared to the same time period in 2022.
