CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater Fire & Rescue crews and Clearwater Police officers responded to Clearwater Airpark, 1000 N. Hercules Ave., at 3:27 p.m. today after a small aircraft ran off the runway.

The pilot, the lone occupant of the plane, was not injured.

This accident follows the horrific plane crash that claimed the lives of three people last week in Clearwater.

Clearwater public safety officials identified the victims of last week’s crash as the pilot, Jemin Patel, 54, of Melbourne Beach; Martha Parry, 86, of 2647 Pagoda Drive; and Mary Ellen Pender, 54, of Treasure Island, who was visiting the mobile home.

The FAA confirms that a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35 crashed around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday after the pilot reported engine failure. The FAA stated that only the pilot was on board the aircraft.

According to the city, up to nine people were inside the mobile home on Pagoda Drive shortly before the crash, with all but two having left.

According to city officials, the plane took off from Vero Beach earlier that day.

According to the Clearwater fire chief Scott Ehlers, the crash and fire affected four homes, with at least one being destroyed.

Ehlers said the tower at the airport got a radio transmission from the pilot that he was having a “mayday, mayday, mayday.”

The investigation into the crash continues.
