The store’s loss prevention team, however, was on the alert and contacted the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. When deputies apprehended Batey, he was found in possession of the stolen merchandise and appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.
Batey of Fort Pierce is now a suspect in multiple retail thefts along the Treasure Coast. He is currently being held at the Martin County Jail on retail theft charges.
