Jeff Zucker resigned as president of CNN and chairman of WarnerMedia’s news and sports division on Wednesday, citing his failure to disclose to the company a “consensual relationship with a close colleague.”
Former President Trump immediately responded.
“Jeff Zucker, a world-class sleazebag who has headed ratings and real-news-challenged CNN for far too long, has been terminated for numerous reasons, but predominantly because CNN has lost its way with viewers and everybody else,” Trump said.
“Now is a chance to put Fake News in the backseat because there may not be anything more important than straightening out the horrendous LameStream Media in our Country, and in the case of CNN, throughout the World. Jeff Zucker is gone—congratulations to all,” Trump concluded in his statement Wednesday.
It’s been widely reported that the woke, mendacious anti-Trump propaganda has come home to roost for CNN.
The network that once prided itself on straight-laced, almost boring both sides – to the point its man in Baghdad during the first Gulf war was accused of being an apologist for Saddam Hussein – is now all “left” all the time, and paying for it in the ratings.
For instance, Fox News Channel released a report last week that not only trumpeted its own ratings triumph over both MSNBC and CNN, but the network also pointed out that year-over-year, CNN’s daytime audience has plunged 77 percent, while its primetime lineup is doing even worse, plummeting 80 percent.
That latter stat has not been helped by the network’s search for a replacement for former nighttime anchor Chris Cuomo, who was fired last year after it was revealed how extensively he helped his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, fend off accusations for sexual harassment.
According to columnist Curtis Houck of the conservative watchdog Newsbusters, CNN first tried snarky left-wing pundit Brianna Keilar in Cuomo’s old slot.
The outcome was dismal.
Citing data from Nielsen Media Research, Houck noted that Keilar was crushed by competition such as the Food Network’s “Worst Cooks in America,” the Game Show Network’s “Chain Reaction,” and TLC’s “My 600 Pound Life.”
Houck added that Keilar was likewise demolished by shows like Lifetime’s “Married at First Sight,” Discovery’s “Growing Belushi” and “Moonshiners,” as well as HGTV’s “Home Town,” “House Hunters,” and “Property Brothers: Forever Home.” Even reruns of “The Andy Griffith Show” and “Gunsmoke” outperformed Keilar.
Then, the bright lights in CNN’s board room opted for an old fave in the Cuomo chair: hero of the republic Jim Acosta, who spent years showing he couldn’t be pushed around by former President Donald Trump, and could spread the alarmist yet airy hyperbole with the best of them.
“Acosta did even worse,” Houck noted.
CNN’s former top White House correspondent lost to a Hallmark Channel movie, History Channel’s “Forged in Fire,” a rerun of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” as well as “My 600 Pound Life.”
Acosta also finished woefully behind HGTV’s “Home Inspector Joe,” “House Hunters” and “Property Brothers,” in addition to trailing Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules.”
