CNN’s plan to pull itself out of a likely fatal tailspin created by unrelenting left-wing politics and numerous sex scandals is nothing short of brilliant – if by that, one means harebrained.
The Washington Times recently reported that CNN has hired liberal media figure Jemele Hill to host a new show on its new streaming service, CNN+.
Hill, who is Black, is perhaps best known for calling white politicians she disagrees with, white supremacists.
“The CNN family is a perfect partner for us because they understand our chemistry and appreciate that our boldness is our strength,” Hill said in a press release issued by CNN. She was referring to another former ESPN host, Cari Champion, who has worked with Hill in other media ventures.
Hill’s race-baiting began not long after she joined ESPN in 2006. In a 2008 piece, for instance, she wrote that rooting “for the [Boston] Celtics is like saying Hitler was a victim,” and she added a reference to the “mostly white” Celtics’ teams during the franchise’s history. Hill was suspended for that.
The Times noted some of Hill’s more provocative comments, which ultimately led to her being shuttled away from on-the-air broadcasts at ESPN.
In September 2017 she called former President Donald Trump a “white supremacist,” and a month later earned another suspension when she allied on an advertiser to boycott the Dallas Cowboys after team owner Jerry Jones said he would bench any player who disrespected the American flag.
In 2020, Hill tweeted, “If you vote for Donald Trump, you are a racist. You have no wiggle room.”
One year ago, when the Dallas Mavericks quit playing the National Anthem before their home games, Hill penned a column saying that should happen in all sports. That’s because “many people – including many athletes of color – are deeply uncomfortable with how patriotic symbols have been weaponized to undermine and diminish the humanity of Black and brown Americans.”
Then last June, after Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin said he would not abolish the filibuster to help Democrats ram through a bill that would federalize all elections, Hill tweeted, “This is so on brand for this country. Record number of black voters show up to save this democracy, only for white supremacy to be upheld by a cowardly, power-hungry white dude. @Sen_JoeManchin is a clown.”
She followed that up with another outburst on Twitter, saying, “It’s not the messaging, folks. This country simply loves white supremacy.”
