OCALA, Fla. – Jerome Junior Swopshire, a 40-year-old from Silver Springs, Florida, has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. The court also ordered him to forfeit the firearm.
Swopshire was apprehended on August 9, 2023, by the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force in Ocala. A search of his backpack revealed a loaded pistol, drugs, and drug paraphernalia.

As a convicted felon with prior convictions for robbery, child abuse, and other offenses, Swopshire is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Multiple law enforcement agencies investigated this case and is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.
