Shots Fired Near North Florida Ave. in Lakeland, Suspect Arrested

LAKELAND, Fla. – Lakeland Police Officers responded to a call of shots fired near the 800 block of North Florida Avenue at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Friday.

A witness reported seeing a male in a black Honda fire shots in the direction of an empty field and then driving off. Officers in the area identified the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over. The driver fled and abandoned the vehicle, which was found minutes later near Virginia Avenue and Peachtree Street. A gun was retrieved from the vehicle.

The suspect was then spotted running around Lake Wire and was taken into custody by police at 1:22 p.m. Friday.

The suspect has been identified as Edwin Torres-Rivera, age 27. There are no reports of injuries and the motive for this shooting is being investigated by police.
