SARASOTA, Fla. – Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section (CIS) is investigating a shooting that occurred in the area of Fruitville Rd and Cattlemen Rd on Saturday evening, May 13.
At approximately 8:08 pm, patrol deputies responded to the area for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased male in a pickup truck on Fruitville, west of I-75.
A female driver and male passenger were located nearby in a sedan. The male passenger stated following a verbal altercation, the driver of the pickup pointed a gun at him and the female driver.

The male passenger exited the vehicle and fired multiple rounds into the driver’s side of the pickup truck striking the driver of the pickup.
Deputies say the male passenger has a valid CCW and was carrying a firearm.
The passenger and driver were released while the investigation is ongoing.
The deceased was released to the Medical Examiner’s office, and a next-of-kin notification was made. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are still canvassing the incident area.
Deputies say all people involved are accounted for, and there is no danger to the public.
