TAMPA, Fla. – A 19-year-old man was fatally shot at Plantation Park in Tampa on Tuesday evening, and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident as a homicide.
Deputies responded to reports of shots fired at the park around 7:24 p.m. Upon arrival, they found two adult males with gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the hospital, where 19-year-old Brian Jones tragically succumbed to his injuries. The second victim is in stable condition.
“A basketball game should never lead to a senseless act of violence such as this,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our detectives are doing everything they can to find out who is responsible for this heinous crime.”

Detectives have determined that a fight broke out during a basketball game at the park, which escalated into the shooting. No arrests have been made at this time.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Those with information can contact the HCSO at 813-247-8200.
