CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a shocking incident of animal abuse and is asking for the public’s help in solving the case, which could include a $1,000 reward.
On Wednesday afternoon, April 27, a citizen called the sheriff’s office to report finding a black bag on the side of the road off of West Horace Allen Street in Lecanto. When reaching to pick up the bag at the individual noticed a strong odor emanating from it, and the bag appeared to be leaking a liquid.
Once the deputy arrived, he cut open the bag to find a dead dog showing apparent abuse signs.
The dog is described as a 25 lb mostly black long-haired adult male with reddish-brown front and back legs. The dog’s tail is a “sort stub” of about 2 to 3 inches long.
Animal Control continues to investigate and asks anyone with information to please contact their office at 352-249-2790.
