HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the launch of a new program aimed at promoting gun safety and protecting children and families.
As part of this initiative, teamHCSO will offer county households gun trigger locks and vaults at no cost.
According to recent statistics, nearly one-third of American households with children under 18 have at least one firearm, and many are not stored safely. Leaving guns unlocked in the home increases the risk of unintentional shootings, especially when children are present.

“Sadly, we have witnessed the devastating consequences of children accessing unsecured guns,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This proactive measure will help us ensure that firearms are stored safely and out of the reach of children or anyone else who should not have access to them.”
Trigger locks and vaults will be proactively distributed by HCSO deputies while investigating school-based threats to those with guns in their homes. teamHCSO will also provide them to anyone that requests one.
The gun trigger locks and vaults provide extra security for firearm owners. They are easy to use and can be installed on most types of firearms.
