A seven-foot alligator sporting a noticeable limp was safely removed from a residential backyard in Hobe Sound this week, thanks to the combined efforts of a deputy and a seasoned gator trapper.
Residents of the neighborhood contacted the Martin County Sheriff’s Office on Friday after spotting the sizable reptile limping around a backyard, raising concerns for the safety of pets and neighbors. The alligator’s persistent presence and apparent injury prompted the call for professional assistance.
“Despite its limp, this alligator was extremely strong,” stated a spokesperson for the MCSO. “It was clear that a two-person effort would be required for a safe removal.”

Corporal Christopher Buckley, known for his expertise in handling large reptiles, venomous animals, and other unusual wildlife encounters, responded to the call. Recognizing the potential danger and the size of the alligator, he collaborated with an experienced gator trapper.
The team successfully detained and removed the seven-foot reptile from the property without incident. The MCSO praised Corporal Buckley’s skill and the trapper’s expertise, emphasizing the importance of professional intervention in such situations.
The alligator is now in the care of licensed wildlife professionals, and the community can breathe a sigh of relief.
