LAKELAND, FL. – The Southeastern University (SEU) baseball team has rescheduled its annual spring training game with the Detroit Tigers following the resolution of the Major League Baseball lockout.
The Fire will head to Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium to take on the Tigers’ “A-Team” comprised of the Tigers’ top prospects at 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, in an exhibition game.
“Our relationship with the Tigers organization, whether that be in Detroit or locally with the Flying Tigers, is invaluable to us,” said SEU’s Director of Athletics, Drew Watson. “We are appreciative to Mr. Christopher Ilitch, Al Avila, and Ryan Garko for finding a way to make this happen within the abbreviated spring training schedule. We look forward to a special day at Tigertown.”
This marks the third meeting between the Fire and the Tigers. The 2021 meeting was canceled due to MLB COVID-19 protocols.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to showcase our team and our university,” said Fire Baseball Coach Adrian Dinkel. “This game has been one of the biggest highlights of our season in the past, and we are thankful the Tigers were able to get us back on the schedule.”
The Fire are currently 27-1 and ranked first in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25, coming off a three-game sweep of a Sun Conference weekend series against Thomas.
