Sen. Rick Scott recently called for the FBI to investigate claims the Chinese Communist Party is operating police stations on U.S. soil.
The Florida Republican sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Thursday asking Wray to address “disturbing reports” that the Chinese communist government is running “illegal police operations” inside the United States.
“Recent reports by the human rights non-governmental organization Safeguard Defenders revealed shocking evidence of Communist China carrying out illegal, transnational policing operations across 53 countries, including the United States, targeting overseas critics of the CCP for harassment, threats against their families in China and ‘persuasion’ to get them to return home,” Scott wrote.

“According to the recently updated report, Chinese police are currently running at least 102 ‘overseas police service centers’ in foreign countries, including in New York City,” Scott continued.
“Established under the guise of helping Chinese nationals living abroad with administrative paperwork and travel, the stations operated by CCP front groups are actually helping to track and return Chinese nationals to China for criminal prosecution.”
The senator added, “These extraterritorial police actions by the CCP violate United States sovereignty and pose a grave threat to our national security.”

Scott called on Wray to notify state and local law enforcement agencies about these “rogue operations by CCP-affiliated groups in our country.”
He also urged the FBI leader to work with the State Department to identify and publish on a publicly accessible website the list of countries where the CCP is running similar operations. That is needed, Scott said, “so that Americans can make informed decisions prior to traveling abroad.”

“The American people deserve full transparency from their government,” Scott concluded.
The conservative website The Floridian reported on Friday that the Chinese government has denied past reports about its overseas operations.
In a statement to CNN in November, the CCP said, “We hope that relevant parties stop hyping it up to create tensions. Using this as a pretext to smear China is unacceptable.”
What Scott called police stations, the Chinese government described as “administrative hubs,” which are intended to help Chinese citizens overseas handle tasks like renewing a driver’s license.
