U.S. authorities reported recently that the number of illegal immigrants crossing the Mexican border hit a historic high last year.
Accordingly, U.S. Sen. Rick Scott believes at least one head must roll for an increasing failure to protect America’s sovereignty.
According to its annual report for the fiscal year 2022, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency recorded 2.38 million illegal crossings in that 12-month span.
As the Associated Press reported last week, that spiked 37 percent from the 1.73 million crossings reported in 2021. Moreover, “The annual total surpassed 2 million for the first time in August and is more than twice the highest level during Donald Trump’s presidency in 2019.”
Scott, a Florida Republican, subsequently argued that the report clearly indicates it’s time for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to set down.
“The American people have had enough of Alejandro Mayorkas’s lies and failures,” Scott said in a statement.

“Despite undeniable evidence that his gross negligence toward securing our southern border is endangering our families and communities across the country, Mayorkas thinks he is doing just fine. WRONG. Contrary to what the Secretary thinks, the border is NOT secure. America is LESS SAFE because of his failures. Mayorkas must resign NOW.”
Besides the number of illegal crossings, Scott noted that federal agents last year seized nearly 7.5 tons of fentanyl from drug smugglers illegally crossing the border.
“How many moms and dads need to lose a child to these evil drugs? How many American lives have to be cut short, families devastated, before Mayorkas and [President Joe] Biden change course?”
“Every day that Mayorkas remains in charge at DHS is another day of pathetic disservice to the American people,” Scott added.
“I’ve been to the border and I’ve seen how understaffed, under-resourced and unsupported the CBP is. It’s shameful that these brave men and women aren’t getting the support they need.”
“The Biden administration’s policy of open borders and amnesty is killing Americans, and Alejandro Mayorkas, whose primary job is to secure the homeland, should resign today for dereliction of duty.”
Meanwhile, as The Free Press has reported, some GOP lawmakers are vowing to impeach Mayorkas if the GOP takes control of Congress after the November elections.

In addition, Biden’s open-border policies have taken a deadly toll on the other side of the Rio Grande.
On Friday, CBS News reported, “At least 853 migrants died trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border unlawfully in the past 12 months, making fiscal year 2022 the deadliest year for migrants recorded by the U.S. government.”
“The figure, which far exceeded the previous record of 546 migrant deaths recorded by Border Patrol in fiscal year 2021, is likely an undercount due to data collection limits, migration policy analysts said.”
